5 Tips on How to Keep Your Fitness Resolutions
Every year we set New Year resolutions for ourselves, hoping that this time we’ll stick to them and
we’ll really become fitter, spend time doing what we love, we’ll read and go out more, work less and erase stress from our lives. But gyms are crowded in January, we’re not as fit as we thought we are and month after month we slowly start giving up on our resolutions. We have some tips for you to help you stay on track so let’s get into it.
- Set yourself a goal
Don’t settle for a general idea of “being more fit”. Set yourself a goal. Do you want to become a runner? Sign up for a 5k run that will take place in your city in autumn and download an app that will help you run that distance (e.g. C25K). Do you want to be more flexible? Join one of the 30-days yoga challenges on YouTube and commit to doing 20 minutes of yoga every day for a month. Have you and your friend always want to try pole dance? Sign up for a class at your local fitness centre and go there together every week.
- Write it down
We all tend to forget about the goals we set when they’re just in our head. Write them down and put them somewhere you can see them every day. Or create a vision board that will remind you of why you decided to set these goals for yourself in the first place. This way you’ll be less tempted to skip a lecture or leave your yoga mat in the corner.
- Buy nice sports clothes
You’re more likely to work out when it means you can wear all the pretty sports clothes you bought. Although you might just be a beginner, the right clothes can help your self-confidence because you already look good and that’s a great motivation to continue. Also, good quality clothes are not just to make you look good, they are a necessity when you need to focus on working out and not on clothes that might make you feel uncomfortable or that don’t fit. Invest in a few pieces, it will make your life a lot easier!
- Don’t give up
We’re only human and sometimes things might not go according to our plan. Whether you didn’t work out as many times as you usually do or you skipped one day of the yoga challenge, don’t give up. It’s not the end of the world and it doesn’t mean you failed. It only means you’re not a robot. So don’t be upset about it, go to bed and when you wake up tomorrow, just continue with working on your goals.
- Reward yourself
Have you been sticking to your goals? Reached an important milestone? Reward yourself! Buy a book, go out with your friends for a coffee, go to the new restaurant that serves amazing food or enjoy a good pampering session – get a massage, pedicure, a new haircut, whatever it is that you’ve been wanting to do and you’ve been postponing it. You deserve it!
