Top 5 Spins for Beginner Pole Dancers
There are so many cool pole moves out there, that it can often be difficult to remember how amazing the beginner spins can be.
It’s so important to make sure that you really know the foundations of pole, to make you progress safely and stay super strong.
The moves below I usually teach in the first few weeks and months of poling, so while I call them ‘beginner’ moves it doesn’t mean that they are really easy, or that you will learn them on your first lesson. For me, they are key moves to make sure you nail 😀
I wanted to share my top 5 beginners spins with you – which all have their own reason for being in the top 5.
Outside Step
I love this move for so many reasons! It is the first spin I teach, and probably the first move I ever learnt. It’s the first spin that so many people do, and we all have that in common. There are so many variations and different names out there (you may know this as a step around, around the world or a dip) but this one is a staple move for a lot of us.
I add it into pretty much all of my routines, and it’s so easy to link with as well.
Chair Spin
Okay so you might tell me that I’m wrong, but I only know this move as a Chair. I’m not sure that I’ve ever heard it called anything else.
So many moves are amazing but for me this is one of the prettiest beginner moves that there is. When I teach it, even though it is a few weeks into class for me, it always gets gasps. People think it is amazing and are worried they won’t be able to do it, but a lot of people can!
I know I struggled with this one many moons ago, but now it is my go to spin.
You can link the chair with any move, yes including inverts!
Back Hook
Similar to the Chair, the Back Hook can be linked with so many different moves. The position can also be used to help nail aerial inverts when the time comes.
Again for my students it is another first – the first time they go backwards. It can be a little scary at first, but this quite quickly becomes a favourite.
This spin is also great for helping to get the speed of your spins up, while still feeling really safe.
Fireman Spin
Well, you can’t have a top 5 without a Fireman Spin being in there! The Fireman Spin has so many different variations that I’m going to include them all under ‘Fireman Spin’.
When you have masted one Fireman, you can add on and go into many different variations without having to change too much.
As your body is facing the pole in this spin, it really helps you to master the push and the pull of your arms. This will benefit every pole move that you do. Again the Fireman is a classic spin that I hope we all know and love.
Carousel
My last favourite spin would have to be a Carousel.
This move used to scare me, as I would worry (correctly so) that my grip wouldn’t hold me. This was of course before I had figured out how to use my arms properly!
This spin goes into so many moves depending on your level – you can go into a Back Hook, or into a Shoulder Mount.
It can be used to help you safely progress and use different grips – a forearm grip, thumb up grip and a low grip. Once you have mastered these you can go into so many beautiful spins – one of which, the Tinkerbell, is a personal favourite.
Of course there are so many beautiful beginner spins but these are just a few of them for you. Here’s a video showing a few more beginner’s spins.
I love these 5 beginners spins as I think they really help build the blocks for your pole journey. They get you super strong and used to being on the pole.
